Short Statement (approx. 300 words)

Creativity through Design and Graphics has always been a passion of mine, and a hobby thats enabled me to channel emotions and a strong imagination onto paper or digital form. When not sketching, I indulge myself in topical magazines and websites, to gain further knowledge, inspiration and new ideas to experiment with. I was due to study graphic design in A-level at a collegiate sixth form, but the course was withdrawn within the first few weeks, my only option was to take up art. Along the way I tried to tie in various elements of graphical features within my art work as well as traditional mediums such as chalks, pencils, and water colors, I hope my ‘Art Final Exam Piece’ below shows this fittingly.

Using my drawing skills to an advantage I regularly scan in drawn designs, to be modified and manipulated within software such as Adobe Photoshop. However over the past few months, after investing in new software for my Apple Mac and a graphics tablet, I began to create album art, logo's, web design, posters and apparel to promote my band. My designs catching the eyes of other local bands, I then began to charge small fee's for the various mediums they wished for me to design. This has also given me a slight insight into the commercial and business side of graphic design, how to communicate with customers and work to deadlines.

Overall I am looking forward to going to university to artistically explore this vast and exciting area in greater detail within a vibrant city such as Manchester. The exceptional resources universities have to offer will hopefully help me to expand my knowledge and technical skills, to express my ideas and apply my enthusiasm in a future career.
